Built in 1997, Denison Softball Field has grown into one of the premier facilities for collegiate softball in NCAA Division III, with a steady stream of renovations and upgrades over the past 15 seasons that keep it at the forefront of the program's competitive success.
The most extensive of these upgrades came in 2023, when the facility was outfitted with a state-of-the-art Astro Turf Diamond Series RBI playing surface, ensuring practice and competition can continue rain or shine. That same year, a new practice bullpen took shape just beyond the left field wall, giving student-athletes even more room to sharpen their game. The outfield fence was also replaced with a ChampionWall system, lending the ballpark a nostalgic, old-school stadium feel while incorporating modern, eco-friendly materials. Rounding out the 2023 upgrades were a new NEVCO scoreboard with inning-by-inning scoring and a state-of-the-art stadium sound system that brings a true game-day atmosphere to every contest.
In 2019, a brick backstop and additional netting were installed, enhancing sightlines and the overall fan experience in the stands.
The 2016 renovation added graphics celebrating the program's rich history of conference and NCAA Tournament success, along with new lighted hitting tunnels beyond the centerfield wall — giving players extended opportunities to train no matter the hour.
A two-story press box, complete with a first-floor concession stand, was added in 2012, elevating both the game-day operations and the fan experience.
In 2007, lights were installed, making Denison one of only a handful of Division III programs capable of hosting night games — a distinction that added a new dimension to the Big Red's home-field advantage.
Perhaps the field's most beloved feature, though, isn't a renovation at all: the informal grassy knoll beyond the left field fence, where lawn chairs and clusters of students gather on sunny spring afternoons to cheer on the Big Red — a tradition as much a part of the ballpark's charm as any upgrade.
Over the years, the facility has hosted nine North Coast Athletic Conference Championship Tournaments and the 2001 NCAA Division III Regional Championship, cementing its place as a proud home for Denison softball.
