Denison University

Mitch Huppert serves as the Assistant Director for Athletic Communications at Denison, joining the Big Red after completing 10 years with Marian University (Ind.) in July of 2026. 

Mitch Huppert finished his 10th year working in the sports information department for Marian University athletics after joining in September of 2016. Huppert served as the assistant sports information director from September 2016 until March 2020, and became the interim sports information director on March 25, 2020. Huppert was promoted to the role of Sports Information Director in the fall of 2020, and on June 29, 2021 was named the Crossroads League SID of the Year. On June 27, 2022, Huppert repeated as the Crossroads League SID of the Year, becoming the first repeat winner in league history. Huppert then became the league's second three-time winner after earning the honor for a third time on July 16, 2025. From May 2022 through the end of his tenure at Marian, Huppert was the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications. 

Huppert has been a member of four Crossroads League SID of the Year departments. 

In his time at Marian, Huppert covered over 60 NAIA National Championship events and four USA Collegiate Cycling Events, including Marian's women's volleyball championship in 2019 as well as the indoor pentathlon championship won by Erin Oleksak at the 2019-20 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Huppert has also covered seven additional track and field individual national championships and served as the lead media director for the Knights' 2025 NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field National Championship. In total, Huppert has covered seven victorious NAIA National Championships and three additional team championship appearances.

Since taking over as Sports Information Director/Assistant A.D. for Communications, Huppert increased the Marian brand by finding ways to expand on the university's partnership with ISC Sports Network, while also brokering a deal to partner with 107.5 FM to air Marian football road games. Huppert was instrumental in the change in Marian's website from PrestoSports/SIDHelp to Sidearm Sports. 

Huppert served as the primary video editor for the Marian sports information department and has produced over 500 highlight and hype videos used on Marian social media platforms. Huppert has additionally posted over 4500 stories to MUKnights.com, and continued to the growth and expansion of the Marian social media platforms. 

During Huppert's first season, Marian saw growth across all social media platforms, including over 1,000 new Twitter followers. The Twitter account made 8.3 million impressions over the course of the 2016-17 season, which was the highest total for any season at Marian to date. Huppert and the sports information staff published 686 stories on MUKnights.com and published 209 videos in 2016-17 alone. 

During the 2016-17 season, Marian was featured in the Indy Star, WTHR, RTV6, FOX 59, CBS 4 and WISH-TV, while ESPN produced a Sportscenter feature on football standout Krishawn Hogan and various other national media outlets used Marian sports information footage on highlight packages of Hogan during the buildup to the NFL Draft.

Huppert is an active member in College Sport Communicators (CSC), and has attended three CSCUnite Conventions. The member has earned 15 CSC Academic All-American honorees, and multiple CSC Academic All-District Honors, including Katie Koger being named as the 2025 NAIA Women's Soccer CSC Academic All-America Player of the Year.

Huppert came to Marian University after serving as the Indiana High School Athletic Association sports administration intern from January to August of 2016.

A 2016 graduate of the University of Indianapolis, Huppert was a four-year member of the Greyhound Football team. While at the University of Indianapolis, he worked in the athletic development department, helping with their gameday operations.

While completing his bachelor’s degree in sport management from UIndy, the Bremen, Ind., native worked two internships with big-name sports entities in Indianapolis. He interned with the Indianapolis Colts in the marketing department as a training camp/marketing intern during the 2015 summer and regular season, before interning with the IHSAA. 

Huppert, an Assistant HESS member at Dension, resigned from Marian in 2026, ending his watch as Athletics Communications Director on July 30, 2026. He and his wife, Allison, both reside in Granville.
