GRANVILLE, Ohio- Denison field hockey secured its seventh shutout of the season after defeating the Allegheny College Gators 5-0 at home. The Big Red stretched its win streak to 11, bringing its overall record to 11-2 and 7-0 in NCAC play; the Gators dropped to 6-8 overall, with a conference record of 4-4.
Denison found the back of Allegheny's cage less than a minute into the first quarter. The Big Red blitzed the Gators' defense, with Lila Smith sending a sweeping pass to Emma Gebhart for the day's first goal. Denison held on to its one-goal lead for the rest of the quarter and added two more in the 22nd and 26th minutes. Gebhart scored the Big Red's second goal of the day from Reilly Desmond, and Lulu Keil tallied her first of the game off a pass from Caroline Stuzziero. Those three assisted goals brought the program's season assist total to 42, breaking the program's 13-year-old single-season assist record (41).
Up 3-0 at the half, the Big Red quickly extended its lead to four. Keil scooped up a misread pass by the Gators and dribbled it from midfield all the way inside the arc for her second goal of the game, putting Denison up 4-0. Two minutes later, Megan Edwards followed suit and put in the Big Red's fifth and final goal of the afternoon.
Denison outshot Allegheny 12-8, with eight shots on goal; however, the Gators held a 6-to-3 edge in penalty corners, keeping Denison without any in the second and fourth quarters. Therese Lucian tallied four saves, while her defense held Allegheny to just four shots on goal.
