Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Denison Remains Undefeated in NCAC Play Following 7-0 Victory Over Oberlin

GRANVILLE, Ohio- Denison field hockey keeps rolling, with its eighth win in a row, following a dominant 7-0 victory over the Oberlin College Yeowomen Wednesday. The Big Red moves to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Yeowomen drop to 2-6 overall and 0-5 in league play.

Emma Gebhart was Denison's leading scorer of the afternoon, finding the back of Oberlin's cage three times. On the defensive end the Big Red gave up no penalty corners or shots, giving junior goalkeeper Therese Lucian her fourth shutout of the season.

The Big Red built a 3-0 first-quarter lead, with Gebhart scoring off Reilly Desmond's assist at 2:05 before Desmond added two goals of her own. Lulu Keil inserted both of the Big Red's penalty corners and eventually assisted Desmond's goal at 13:11 as the Big Red finished the quarter ahead 3-0.

In the second quarter Denison's scoring went cold, despite the Big Red's offensive pressure earning them nine penalty corners throughout the quarter. Oberlin's Mia Rubin denied Denison's best chances in the quarter, and the Big Red carried a 3-0 lead into halftime.

The Big Red added two third-quarter goals, with Gebhart scoring off an assist from Maggie Lamb and Keil following at 44:43 with assists from Lamb. The Big Red kept the offensive pressure on heading into the fourth with a 5-0 lead. Denison tacked on its final two goals in the 47th minute and 55th minute of play. Keil scored her second goal of the game off a crisp pass from Gebhart, and completing the hat trick Gebhart extended the Big Red's lead to 7 with just over five minutes left to play in the game.

Denison outshot Oberlin 19 to 1, and helped a 14-0 penalty corner advantage. This notched the fifth shut out in a row for the Big Red, and have outscored its NCAC opponents 20-to-1 so far this season. Another highlight of the night was that Keil recorded her 12th assist of the season, ties the program record for most assists in a season.
