WINCHESTER, Va.- Denison field hockey wrapped its opening weekend on the road with a 7-0 loss to #18 University of Lynchburg. The Big Red move to 0-2 on the season, while the Hornets improve to 2-1.
Lynchburg, with an extra day of rest and coming off a big 9-1 victory over Thomas, kept their offense rolling in its sixth head-to-head matchup against the Big Red. The Hornets took no time to get on the board, scoring two goals in the first quarter, just two minutes apart from each other. In the remaining three quarters Lynchburg quickly began to pull away, scoring at least one goal a quarter, resulting in a 7-0 victory over Denison.
Despite the games outcome, junior goalkeeper Therese Lucian tallied 15 saves throughout regulation, which is a career high. The Hornets outshot the Big Red 31-2, and earned 12 penalty corners, while giving up just two to Denison.

Denison returns to Granville, Ohio for its home opener matchup against Roanoke College. The Big Red and the Maroons take to the field on Saturday, September 12, for an 11 a.m. matchup.
