Erie, Pennsylvania – No. 21 Denison Big Red men's soccer battled back from a late deficit thanks to two goals from
Justin Crow, but Penn State-Behrend answered in the final minutes to secure a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon at Behrend Stadium.
The match remained scoreless through the first 73 minutes before Penn State-Behrend broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute. Denison answered in a hurry, as senior midfielder
Justin Crow tied the match just over two minutes later in the 76th minute, finishing off an assist from
Jack Rice. Crow struck again just 77 seconds after that, in the 78th minute, converting a feed from
Eli Taylor to put the Big Red in front, 2-1. It was a career day for Crow, whose two-goal, two-point outburst matched his best output of the season and marked the first multi-goal game of his career.
Penn State-Behrend wouldn't go quietly, however, leveling the match in the 84th minute to salvage the tie. Denison pushed for a winner in the closing minutes — Taylor had rattled the crossbar just before the go-ahead goals, and Crow nearly completed a hat trick with a header late — but neither side could find the breakthrough.
Denison out-shot Penn State-Behrend 15-10 for the match, with junior goalkeeper
Ronan Kiter making three saves in goal. Rice continues to pace the Big Red offense, now up to three goals and two assists for eight points on the season, while Crow's performance pushed him into second on the team with five points (2G, 1A).Â
With the result, Denison moves to 5-1-5 overall. The Big Red return home to host DePauw on Wednesday, October 14, at 4 p.m. in NCAC play.
