GAMBIER, Ohio- Denison field hockey moves to 10-2 on the season and 6-0 in conference play after defeating the Kenyon College Owls 2-0 on the road. The Owls drop to 5-7 overall and 4-3 in NCAC play.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Big Red found the back of the Owls' cage in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Senior Reilly Desmond collected a poorly cleared ball and snuck it past the Kenyon backline to put Denison up 1-0 with over 13 minutes left in the half. The Big Red held tight to its one-goal lead heading into halftime, giving up no shots or penalty corners throughout the first half.
Following halftime, Denison and Kenyon traded shots on goal, and seven minutes into the second half, Lulu Keil put in goal number two for the Big Red. Desmond and Keil's goals were ultimately all Denison needed to collect its tenth win in a row and sixth shutout of the season.
The Big Red's defense kept the night quiet for Therese Lucian. The backline allowed just five shots and one penalty corner, and Lucian tallied one save. Denison finished the game outshooting its opponent 18-5, and held a 5-1 advantage in penalty corners.
