Granville, Ohio - In a back-and-forth defensive battle in the late summer heat, the Big Red men's soccer team was able to prevail in a clutch 1-0 victory over Capital in the season opener under the lights of Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium. The win makes it their second consecutive home opener victory, and they have not lost a season opener since the 2021 campaign.

Both teams would exchange blows, as Capital fired off three quick corner kicks within the 22-minute mark to keep Denison on their toes defensively, but the backline held strong. The rest of the first half saw shots from Will Fullerton and Emmett O'Brien, but they could not find the back of the net, and the teams would head into the second half tied 0-0.

The second half started much the same, as both teams exchanged fouls in the early minutes, with a nice look from Will Fullerton with a shot on goal, but he could not connect. After finding some holes offensively, the Big Red took advantage of the Capital defense, and first-year Lowen Jamison fired a pass off to Jack Rice, who booted the ball into the net to break the tie and go up 1-0 in the 77th minute. It was Jamison's first point in his first game as a Big Red, and it was Rice's seventh goal of his career and 16th point.

With momentum on their side, Denison used their stout defense to hold on and win the match, 1-0. Alex Provost picked up the win in goal, not seeing a single shot on goal but grabbing some key corner kicks to eliminate the Comet attack.

Denison had eight shots on goal in comparison to Capital's zero, and had 15 shots overall. Both squads had three corner kicks apiece, along with each team grabbing a yellow card.
