Granville, Ohio – Denison Big Red men's soccer edged Pomona-Pitzer, 1-0, on a Sunday morning at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium, as junior midfielder
Colin MacDonald scored the lone goal of the match in the 18th minute to remain unbeaten in the start of the 2026 season.
MacDonald put the Big Red ahead early, converting a feed from sophomore midfielder Cade Priestap in the 18th minute off a nice header to give Denison a 1-0 lead it would not relinquish. The two sides traded chances for the remainder of the half, but neither could find the back of the net again before the break.
The second half saw Pomona-Pitzer push for an equalizer, but the Big Red defense held firm. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Provost was steady between the pipes, making three saves in the second half to preserve the clean sheet.
MacDonald scored his first goal of the season, while Priestap tallied his first point. Kaden Kist and Jack Rice were the other Big Red to have chances on goal.
Denison finished with a 9-8 edge in total shots, though Pomona-Pitzer held a slight advantage in shots on goal, 3-4. The match was a physical affair, with the Sagehens committing 22 fouls and picking up five yellow cards, compared to 12 fouls and two yellow cards for the Big Red.
With the win, Denison improves to 3-0-1 on the season, extending its win streak to two games, while Pomona-Pitzer falls to 3-2-0. The Big Red return to Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium on Wednesday, September 16, to host Otterbein University at 7 p.m.
