Men’s Cross Country Starts Season Strong with Win at Otterbein Invitational

Westerville, Ohio - The Denison men's cross country team won the Otterbein Invitational Saturday, topping the field with 33 points. Four Big Red finished in the top-10, while sophomore Will Jackson won the event by six seconds.

How It Shook Out

Sophomore Will Jackson paced the Big Red and claimed the individual title, winning the race outright in 15:58.49.
First-year Jack Blemker was the second Denison runner across the line, finishing fourth in 16:14.83, followed by senior Leo Wisnefski, who rounded out the front pack for the Big Red, placing eighth in 16:31.07.
First-year Aaron Escalante finished ninth with a time of 16:35.29.
First-year Canaan Sommers was right behind, taking 11th in 16:36.49.
First-year Olma Mathewos finished 14th, crossing in 16:39.77, and sophomore Sebastian Klimchak capped the scoring seven, placing 17th in 16:55.61.

Denison's 33 points were good enough for first place, six points ahead of runner-up Otterbein (39). Heidelberg (86) and Xavier (123) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Up Next for the Big Red

Denison will travel to Cedarville, Ohio, for the All-Ohio Inter-Collegiate Classic on Friday, September 18th at 6:40 pm.
