Women’s Cross Country Shines in Season Opening Win at Otterbein Invitational

Westerville, Ohio - The Denison women's cross country team won the Otterbein Invitational Saturday, topping a four-team field with 21 points. Six of the top seven runners placed in the top-10, with first-year Maggie Jewell taking the crown.

How It Shook Out

First-year Maggie Jewell started her Big Red career off with a bang, pacing the Big Red and claimed the individual title, winning the race outright in 19:03.16.
Sophomore Shaylee Murdough finished second in 19:27.63, and first-year Emily Harrington was the third Denison runner across the line, placing fourth in 20:03.58.
First-year Orla Muir finished sixth with a time of 20:08.22 in her first race in her Denison career.
Junior Floralysse Biteau placed eighth, crossing in 20:17.62.
Senior Fiona Martinelli was in the middle of the pack, finishing ninth in 20:18.35.
Sophomore Hanna Hack rounded out the scoring, placing 11th in 20:25.99.

Denison's 21 points were good enough for first place, 16 points ahead of runner-up Otterbein (37). Heidelberg (95) and Xavier (100) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Up Next for the Big Red

Denison will travel to Cedarville, Ohio, for the All-Ohio Inter-Collegiate Classic on Friday, September 18th at 6:00 pm.
