STATE COLLEGE, Pa.- In its second invitational of the season, the Denison men's golf team finished fifth at the Toftrees Invitational, with a team score of 592. The Big Red played consistently across the two rounds, with two of the four team scorers finishing in the top 20. As a team, Denison recorded 20 birdies, with first-year Alex Sheehan leading the team in birdies after firing off nine across the two days.

 

Round one (6861 yds | Par 72)

First-years Ryan Toole and Alex Sheehan steered the Big Red to its fifth-place finish from the start. Toole played with consistency, tallying 16 pars and a birdie to finish round one even. Sheehan recorded a team-high three birdies and was just +1 after day one of competition, with a score of 73. Jack Pelletier finished day one tied for 22nd place, after sinking a birdie on the opening hole and finishing round one with a score of 74 (+2). Will McCarthy rounded out the team score after shooting 76 in round one, closing out the day strong with a birdie on hole 17. Also scoring 76 on day one was Joseph Brasky, who finished the first round tied with McCarthy.

Round two (6674 yds | Par 72)

On day two of the Toftrees Invitational, Toole and Sheehan were neck-and-neck throughout the second round, with both scoring 74 (+2). Toole finished tied for 13th, while Sheehan was close behind, tied for 15th. To stay within reach of Toole, Sheehan birdied the last three of his four holes to finish out the invitational. Also scoring a 74 in round two was Will McCarthy, who jumped five spots between day one and two and finished the invitational in 35th place. Pelletier was the final team scorer for the Big Red, shooting 75 in round two, ultimately finishing tied for 25th.

Up Next for the Big Red

Denison's next tournament will take place in Indianapolis, Ind., at the Broadmoor Country Club from Monday, October 5 through Tuesday, October 6. Wabash College will host the two-day tourney, with 36 holes in the first round and 18 in the second.
